Hailstorms and tornadoes hit southen China

A violent hailstorm and associated tornado struck the southern Daoxian province in China killing a reported 24 people and injuring hundreds more. Hailstones up to 8cm in diameter punched holes through roof tiles and car windows. Tornadoes and hailstones are not uncommon in China as warm moist air interacts with dry cooler elevated air streaming across from the elevated regions of the Tibetan Plateau.

Mid North Coast Rain Event 2nd March 2013

mid_North_Coast_rain_event_2nd_March_2013The Mid North Coast is the next region to be in the path of steady to heavy rain and flooding. Given that the region has had phenomenal flooding just two weeks ago, it would not take much rainfall to once again raise the river levels. The Bureau of Meteorology has already issued a Flood Watch which is a “heads up” for possible future flooding in the region. Included are the Peel River near Tamworth, the Hunter Valley Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands.
